Predicting the Residual Stress of Amorphous Al2O3-Y2O3 Nano-Laminated Deuterium Permeation Barrier under Thermal Cycles

Al2O3-Y2O3 laminated coating can be applied in fusion reactors to prevent fuel leakage and radiological hazard. However, the residual stress induced by thermal cycles during operation of reactor cause failure coating. In order analyze problem, finite element models coatings with 600 nm total thickness different layout were analyzed. The max principal site is located at sub-top layer. Y2O3 decreases from 657 MPa for a two-layer (300 nm) 598 four-layer (150 nm). On contrary, if Al2O3 layer, increases 463 495 result shows that more deformable amorphous layer system influential stress.
